Who We Are
Our Story
Founded in 1921 from the former Kryn & Lahy Photographic & Microscopic Society, Letchworth Garden City Camera Club has been part of the town’s creative life for over a century. Early meetings took place at Letchworth Museum, before moving to various venues including the Church Institute, local studios, and schools, with outings organised by bus, train, and bicycle. In 1950 the club made The Settlement its permanent home, where meetings are still held today.
From the days of developing plates and making lantern slides to the era of digital cameras and smartphones, the club has evolved with the times. Membership has grown with the rise of digital photography, and members now use everything from iPhones to high-end DSLRs. Whatever the equipment, the club offers a friendly, collaborative space where creativity thrives and great images are celebrated.
We’re a friendly, sociable photography club meeting weekly on Thursday evenings. Based at The Settlement in Letchworth Garden City, we often gather at other local venues and follow a three-term programme—autumn, winter, and summer. Our members span all skill levels, from beginners to professionals, and share a wide range of photography styles, including emerging trends.
Our annual programme features skill-building sessions, guest speakers, studio nights, and on-location shoots. We also organise weekend trips to explore locations further afield, with members always willing to share knowledge, ideas, and support.
Currently, we meet weekly on Thursday evenings at 7.45pm in the Brunt Room at The Settlement. Visitors and potential new members are always welcome - please come and see us for a few meetings before committing to join.
